Location: Kunshan (120°48′21″E - 121°09′04″E, 31°06′34″N - 31°32′36″N) is situated in the southeastern part of Jiangsu Province, sitting between the cities of Shanghai and Suzhou. Kunshan borders Suzhou’s county-level cities of Changshu and Taicang on the north and northeast, Shanghai’s Jiading and Qingpu districts on the south and southeast, Suzhou’s Wujiang and Xiangcheng districts as well as Suzhou Industrial Park on the west. The longest straight-line distance from its east to west is 33 km and north to south 48 km. The city covers a total area of 931 km², of which water bodies account for over 17.51%.

Terrain: Kunshan is located at the Taihu Plain of the Yangtze River Delta. The region boasts an intricate network of rivers, and is sitting at a flat terrain that gently slopes from southwest to northeast. Elevations typically range from 2.8 m to 3.7 m above sea level (Base level: Woosung Horizontal Zero).

Rivers and Lakes: Kunshan is a renowned water town in south of the Yangtze River with a dense network of waterways and lakes. The Woosung River and Loujiang River traverse the region from east to west. Notable lakes include Dianshan Lake, Yangcheng Lake, Chenghu Lake, and Kuilei Lake.

Climate: Kunshan falls within North Asia’s southern subtropical monsoon climate zone, with an annual average temperature of 17.6°C, precipitation of 1,200.4 mm, and sunshine duration of 1,789.2 hours. The air quality is excellent. Each year, its air quality in over 300 days can meet the national Grade II standard. In 2011, 359 days met the air quality standard.
